What's a tech guy doing at a hair loss startup?

October 13, 2025

"What's a tech guy doing at a hair loss startup?" I get asked this at almost every meetup, networking event, or even from friends. And honestly, I had the same doubt myself two years ago. Like many engineers, I tried to avoid biology right after 10th. I chose PCM because ratta mujhse naa ho payega. And yet, here I am working at a dermatology startup.

For me, hair loss is a problem waiting to be solved. And at its core, I love problem solving like every other engineer. The loop is the same: Observe → Analyse → Refer past data → Experiment → Solve (or fail and try again).

Now, is hair loss a tech problem? Yes, absolutely. Because it's not about finding a magical cure. It's about chronic care management. Building adherence, personalisation, and continuous guidance. Every person's root cause is unique, and without data and constant touchpoints, treatments don't stick.

So, am I the "right" person to solve hair loss? Honestly, no idea. Only time will tell. But I do know this: whether you're writing code or solving a dermatology problem, you need problem solvers. And at DermaQ, that's exactly what we're trying to do. Solve a deeply personal problem, one day at a time.
